Dan Wilde was born and raised in Sweetwater County, where he grew up on his family’s cattle ranch along Birch Creek of the Green River. Dan earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science with a minor in Native American Studies from Brigham Young University and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Wyoming, College of Law.
Dan began his legal career as a prosecutor for the City of Cheyenne before going into private practice focusing on insurance defense. Through the cases he prosecuted and his private practice, Dan saw the overwhelming need for attorneys to represent children and families. Particularly, Dan saw a need for attorneys to represent vulnerable adults and children. Recognizing this need for attorneys to represent children and families shifted Dan’s plans for the future and altered his career path forever.
Dan spent the next ten years representing children and adults with serious mental health and developmental disabilities. Dan was the principal attorney in two successful federal class action suits to reduce the populations and improve services at the Wyoming State Hospital and the Wyoming State Training School. Based, in part, on his successful suits against the State of Wyoming, the State of Wyoming decided he would be an asset and was hired by the Office of the Attorney General in 1996. Dan spent the next ten years striving to improve the delivery of services to children and families from within state government. Initially, Dan’s duties included representing the Departments of Education and Family Services. In 1998, Dan created the Children’s Permanency Unit within the Office of the Attorney General and successfully wrote and submitted the Grant Application for the Court Improvement Project with the Wyoming Supreme Court.
In 2006, Governor Dave Freudenthal appointed Dan to serve as the Deputy Director of the Department of Family Services. In 2012, Dan joined the Wyoming Guardians Ad Litem Program as a contractor and eventually became the Program’s first Permanency Attorney. In 2013, Dan became the Deputy Director of the Wyoming Guardian ad Litem Division.
Dan retired from the state of Wyoming on October 3, 2020 and joined Wyoming Legal Group. Dan’s practice focuses on Guardian ad Litem services, Mediation, Education Law with an emphasis on Special Education, Federal Benefits, Domestic Relations, Personal Injury and simple Wills and Estate Planning.
