Scott Hilderman, Former State and Federal Prosecutor and Former Assistant United States Attorney grew up in Libby and graduated from Libby Sr. High School. He was a member of the 1987 state champion Greenchain wrestling team. Scott attended Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) where he graduated with high honors and received a B.A. in political science in 1991. While at PLU, he was a cadet in the U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Program. Scott was commissioned a second Lieutenant upon graduation and assigned to the U.S. Army Intelligence Corps.

Scott received his law degree from Seattle University in 1994. After graduating from law school, Scott was selected for active duty and assigned to the 718th Military Intelligence Group in Bad Aibling, Germany. After spending several years in Germany, Scott did a branch transfer to the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps (J.A.G.C.) where he served as a Magistrate and represented soldiers and veterans in a full range of civil and criminal matters at Fort Knox, Kentucky.

In 1998 Scott left active duty and accepted a position at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Kentucky in Louisville, Kentucky. He was assigned to the General Crimes Unit and represented the United States in an array of criminal cases to include bank robbery, wire fraud, drug distribution, and federal firearms cases.

In 2000 he was transferred to the McAllen division of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas where he primarily prosecuted complex international drug conspiracies involving wiretap evidence. He also prosecuted fraud, violent crimes, firearms and immigration cases. In 2004, Scott was assigned to the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task force.

In 2005 Scott accepted a position with a law firm in Kalispell, Montana. He worked there as an associate and partner for 6 years. While at the firm, he handled civil litigation and criminal defense cases in state and federal courts. In 2009, he left the law firm and started his own practice, Law Offices of Scott G. Hilderman, P.C.

 

In his 23+ years of practice, Scott has tried dozens of jury cases to verdict, both civil and criminal, in all state and federal courts. He has argued cases before the 5th and 6th U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeal. Scott was certified a trial advocate by both the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s program, completing an intensive trial advocacy course at both the J.A.G.C. school at the University of Virginia and at the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Advocacy Center at the University of South Carolina. He is a member of the N.W. Montana Bar Association and the Montana Criminal Defense Association.
