Shane Bangerter grew up in the small western Kansas town of Leoti, working hours of farm and ranch labor between school activities and university attendance. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1987 from Oral Roberts University and a law degree in 1990 from the University of Kansas School of Law. He and his wife, Kirstin, have two children, Austin and Paige. Austin flies the F-16 for the USAF, and Paige graduated from the University of Kansas School of Law in 2019 and is an attorney here at Bangerter Law.
Shane was appointed to the Kansas Board of Regents by Governor Sam Brownback in 2013, and has served as a member of the Board of Trustees for Dodge City Community College. In addition, he has served on the Board of Governors for the University of Kansas School of Law, and the Boards of the Dodge City Housing Authority, Dodge City Roundup Rodeo, The Alley Teen Center and Dodge City Raceway Park.
Bangerter has argued cases before the Kansas Court of Appeals and the Kansas Supreme Court. His cases have made new law in Kansas regarding a number of work issues. These efforts have earned him recognition from his peers in The Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers, as an outstanding workers compensation law attorney. He has been named ‘Lawyer of the Year’ by Best Lawyers in America twice.
Shane was also named a Fellow by the Litigation Counsel of America. Membership is limited to 3,500 Fellows, representing less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers.
In his free time, Shane enjoys ranch horse competitions, flying aerobatics, and training bird dogs.
