Syndel L. Knoll Berman is a litigation attorney at the Knoll Law Group, where she specializes in personal injury and employment law cases, and handles the firm’s sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation and wrongful termination cases.

Syndel earned her Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles. While attending law school, Syndel was a Staff Writer and Senior production Editor for the Loyola of Los Angeles Entertainment Law Review. She received the Jesuit Community Scholarship in her second year. Throughout Syndel’s law school experience she worked as a law clerk at the Anti-Defamation League, Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, for the Domestic Violence Clinic in the Santa Monica Courthouse, and Bet Tzedek Legal Services. While awaiting bar results, Syndel clerked for the Honorable Robert Broadbelt III at the Torrance Courthouse.

Syndel’s experiences in public interest grew her passions for serving the community, and led her into a career as a litigator.

Prior to joining Knoll Law Group, Syndel was an associate attorney at Rosen Saba LLC, where her practice consisted of representing plaintiffs and defendants in employment, personal injury, legal malpractice, and business litigation.

A significant win in Syndel’s career, was her representation of a car painter against his former employer for claims including internal whistleblower retaliation, workplace harassment retaliation, sexual and gender-based harassment, failure to prevent harassment and retaliation, wrongful termination, wage, hour, and meal break violations, failure to provide accurate wage statements, failure to pay wages when due, and unfair business practices. The case was heavily litigated, and after Plaintiff presented his case-in-chief after five days of Arbitration, the case confidentially settled within the six-figure range.

To Syndel, the litigation of this case amplified the importance of persistence, hard-work, and advocating for your client and their story.

Featured Pro Bono Activities

Through Public Counsel, Syndel and co-counsel prepared and submitted a brief in support of a discharge upgrade, on behalf of our client, a Marine Corps Veteran, who developed Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain (TBI) Injury after his deployment to Iraq with Operation Iraqi Freedom. The client suffered physical and mental ailments suffered by too many of our nation’s great service members, and unfortunately, resorted to alcohol and substance abuse as a coping mechanism. As a result of the Marine Corps’ failure to provide basic mental health services, and his self-medication, our client received an Other Than Honorable discharge, which stripped him of his dignity and much needed benefits. The case is currently up on appeal.
